Under provision of the federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB), Title I Schools that have been identified as Needs Improvement for two or more consecutive years may be required to offer parents the opportunity to transfer their child to another school, which is in good academic standing, or offer other options required by the law. Note: A school identified as Needs Improvement must meet Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for two consecutive years in order to become a school in good academic standing
